Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, underwent surgery on Friday after sustaining a knee injury during his martial arts training. The injury, specifically a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), commonly referred to as the ACL, has temporarily derailed his preparations for an MMA fight. Zuckerberg took to Instagram to share the news and express his gratitude for the medical team overseeing his treatment.
He stated, “I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that’s delayed a bit.” He affirmed his intention to return to training and compete in the fight once he has fully recovered. An accompanying photo on his Instagram post showed him in a hospital bed with his left knee securely bandaged.
This unexpected turn of events emerges amid speculation about a potential cage fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, the owner of X. The prospect of a face-off between these two tech titans initially surfaced in June when Musk, responding to a post about Meta’s new Threads, suggested a cage match with Zuckerberg, saying, “up for a cage match if [Zuckerberg] is.”
Zuckerberg’s response, delivered through an Instagram story, was a simple “Send Me Location.” Subsequently, Musk hinted at the possibility of a “noble” debate instead of a cage fight, to which Zuckerberg appeared amenable. However, Zuckerberg later expressed doubts about Musk’s seriousness regarding the match.
In September, Elon Musk revived the idea, asserting that he was still open to a fight if Zuckerberg was willing. Despite these exchanges, no official date or location has been established for the hypothetical match.
At one point, Italy was suggested as a potential epic backdrop for the encounter. Nevertheless, with Mark Zuckerberg’s current incapacitation due to his ACL injury, the likelihood of the fight taking place anytime soon has diminished.
