Fatal Stabbing Over 1,000 Shillings in Agago District

A dispute over a mere 1,000 shillings took a deadly turn, resulting in a fatal stabbing in Lapono sub-county, Agago district. The victim, Tarasisto Okwera, a 53 year-old peasant from Nyer Ikan south village, lost his life in the attack.

The suspect, Okello Aldo Akech, a 32 year old peasant from Ocoyo Lamero village, has been arrested by the local police, as reported by Police spokesperson Fred Enanga during the weekly media briefing at Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.




The disagreeement began when the suspect was hired to repair the victim’s padlock, charging 2,000 shillings for the service. However, a dispute arose when the victim initially handed over only 1,000 shillings, promising to provide the remaining 1,000 later.




The situation escalated when the suspect insisted on receiving the full payment and the confrontation grew tense. At this point, the suspect forcibly took a knife from the victim, chasing before stabbing him on the left side of his rib.




Community members swiftly intervened, apprehending the suspect and handing him over to the LC1 chairperson. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries while en route to Kalongo Hospital, and his lifeless body was returned to his home.

An outraged crowd attempted to take justice into their own hands, attacking the suspect. However, the Lapono Police post intervened, rescuing the accused and securing evidence, including the knife believed to have been used in the attack.
