Security personnel in Rwimi Sub County, Bunyangabu District, discovered a suspected bomb in a trench near a fuel station on Saturday. The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) dispatched a team of experts from Kavera army barracks in Hima, Kasese District, to address the situation.
According to Col Deo Akiiki, the army deputy spokesperson, the suspected bomb was strategically placed approximately six meters away from the fuel pump. Both the police and the army actively worked together to manage the situation.
Mr. George Kamugisha, the village chairperson of Kadindimo, suspected the involvement of ADF rebels due to the proximity to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The suspected bomb paralyzed the area until 2 pm when UPDF experts successfully removed it. Following the removal, security personnel and community leaders conducted a sensitization meeting, urging residents to report any suspicious individuals.
Concerned about potential disruptions by suspected ADF rebels as the year concludes, the community resolved to implement measures. Residents were instructed not to host visitors without proper documentation, emphasizing the need for reporting such cases to the chairman first.
In a related incident in Kamwenge District, residents of Kitwe Village in Kahodo Parish witnessed a house belonging to Fred Karungi being razed down by fire. Initially suspected as an ADF rebel act, further investigation revealed a possible conflict involving the house owners and other individuals in the area. The incident adds to a series of suspected ADF rebel attacks in Kitehurizi and Nyabitusi 1 villages, claiming 13 lives and resulting in the burning of three houses.
