Security in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing (KMP) area has been significantly strengthened by joint efforts from the police and Uganda Peoples Defence Forces ahead of the New Year festivities. The KMP spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, emphasized the implementation of a comprehensive strategy to ensure the safety of city dwellers and all Ugandans.

“We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that Ugandans can enjoy the New Year’s Eve without any issues,” stated Onyango, assuring the public of the security teams’ commitment.

To maintain a secure environment, security forces have increased the deployment of both covert and overt personnel, actively monitoring the situation. Motorized and foot patrols, including motorcycle quad and 999 patrols, have been reinforced. Additionally, standby forces are strategically positioned to respond promptly to any security-related incidents or emergencies.

Onyango urged the public to be vigilant and play an active role in ensuring security. He emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious persons or objects to the police and other security agencies, urging cooperation from citizens.

Addressing journalists on December 31, 2023, at the Central Police Station in Kampala, Onyango issued a caution against drunk driving, highlighting its potential to lead to accidents. Furthermore, parents were advised not to leave underage children unattended in houses while attending overnight New Year prayers.
