Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for utilizing his prerogative powers to intervene against the sale of Muslim properties. Ssemambo commended the President for advising Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo to review a decision by the Court of Appeal that permitted the sale of properties belonging to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

During his visit to the western region, Ssemambo, accompanied by leaders from the commission investigating mismanagement of Muslim properties, held Juma prayers at Abubakar Jamia Masjid Kakoba in Mbarara city under tight security.

President Museveni’s letter to the chief justice, dated December 7, 2023, expressed surprise at the court’s decision to auction Muslim property and called for a review due to an individual’s mistake.

Ssemambo expects the commission of inquiry to present their findings within six months and urged fellow Muslims to focus on unity, avoid blame games, and refrain from rushing to judgment. Sheikh Adam Abas, leading the Juma prayers, emphasized the importance of unity within Islam and encouraged Muslims to contribute positively to the promotion of their faith.

Ssemambo also pledged efforts towards reconciling Muslims for the common goals of unity, development, and social transformation, while addressing the challenge of terrorism tarnishing the image of Islam.
