Kapelebyong, Uganda: A section of leaders in Kapelebyong district in the Teso region have disagreed over the state of the multimillion-valley tank in Odukul. In December of last year, a team from the Ministry of Water opened a water trap from the dam for animals to drink water. The community has expressed concerns, stating that the engineering team needs to be evaluated for the quality of their work.

“There are many things that this valley tank is lacking. Imagine, this is the valley tank that has been delayed for many years due to corruption in the Ministry of Water and the entire Kapelebyong district,” said James Okiror.

Peter Ojilong, another resident, said they would never accept the valley tank without all the necessary components in place. “We are watching them closely. After all, this dam is for the community, not for an individual,” he added.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Water and Environment has faced numerous challenges with the community over their projects in the Teso region.

Mr. Francis Akorikin, the district chairperson of Kapelebyong, told this publication that although the valley tank has started helping cattle keepers, more adjustments need to be made.

Several attempts to get a comment from Ministry of Water and Environment officials were futile since most of them are busy enjoying the Christmas festival.
