Lay Canon Christopher Rubarenzya’s Life Celebrated in Buremba

The town of Buremba in Kazo came together to celebrate the remarkable life of Lay Canon Christopher Rubarenzya in a gathering that resonated with heartfelt farewells. Born in 1928, his journey was a testament to unwavering dedication to the service of God and his beloved country, leaving behind a legacy that will forever endure, particularly in the Ankole region.

The funeral service, attended by a multitude of mourners, became a tribute to a man of true substance, as described by Philip Tumukunde Ndamira, representing the Rubarenzya grandchildren. Ndamira painted a vivid picture of his late grandfather’s values, contrasting them with the materialistic mindset prevalent in today’s society.




In his eulogy, Ndamira urged leaders not to squander the opportunity to positively shape Uganda’s future. He addressed leaders with a poignant message, pointing out the disparity between promises made and unfulfilled actions.




During the ceremony, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja conveyed President Museveni’s message, emphasizing Lay Canon Christopher Rubarenzya’s significant contributions even at the age of 98. The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, represented by her daughters Natasha and Patience, extended condolences to the family.




Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, the Minister for Security, remembered Canon Rubarenzya’s remarkable contributions to the nation, while seasoned diplomat Sam Kutesa highlighted the late Canon’s role in promoting unity and development in Uganda.

Enos Tusiime, a prominent figure in the Ankole region, shared personal anecdotes about his interactions with Canon Rubarenzya, illustrating the late Canon’s unwavering dedication to the local community and his strong moral character.

President Kagame of Rwanda also sent condolences and a message of solidarity with the family during this difficult time.




Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, bid farewell to Lay Canon Christopher Rubarenzya, expressing sympathies to his beloved wife of 68 years, Omukaikuru Jane Kafunga, and their children.
