Mitooma District police are on a relentless search for a 19-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old child. The disturbing incident unfolded on January 5, 2024, at around 7:30 PM in Rwirara 1 village, Ijumo parish, Mitooma sub-county.
Beatrice Tukundane, the mother of the victim, narrated the horrifying details. She had entrusted Vincent, her own brother-in-law, with the care of her daughter while she worked in the fields. Unfortunately, that trust was callously betrayed. The young girl, barely beyond babbling and first steps, experienced an unimaginable horror within the presumed safety of her grandmother’s home.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the incident with a tone heavy with resolve. “We are sparing no effort in apprehending Akili,” he declared. “This is a monstrous act, and he will face the full weight of the law.”
As the manhunt intensified, the Mitooma community grappled with the aftermath. Mothers clutched their children tighter, and whispers of fear and suspicion permeated the air. Posters, displaying Akili’s face, served as a stark reminder of the darkness that lurked and were plastered on every wall.
Amidst the fear, a flicker of hope remained. The young victim, currently receiving medical attention at Mitooma Health Center IV, stood as a testament to resilience. Though her spirit was battered, it refused to be extinguished. The community, united in grief and determination, vowed to stand by her side every step of the way.
The hunt for Akili continued, with the police aiming to apprehend him for questioning and to obtain a blood sample for further investigation and comparison.
