Bodaboda operators in the Bunyoro region have received advice to embrace a saving culture as a crucial step toward fostering social and economic development. Hoima East division Member of Parliament, Dr. Patrick Mwesigwa Isingoma Obama, emphasized the importance of saving and investing for the future, urging the community, especially bodaboda operators, to adopt this financial discipline.
MP Obama demonstrated his commitment to supporting local initiatives by handing over a new Bajaj motorcycle (registration number UGB819J) to the Twekambe Shell Stage Bodaboda Number One Group in Kicwamba village, Hoima West division. The motorcycle, worth sh5.3m, was procured by Obama in response to the group’s request for financial assistance to enhance their income generation.
During the handover ceremony on Sunday, MP Obama challenged the bodaboda riders to remain focused and cautioned them against squandering their hard-earned money on non-developmental activities such as alcoholism and promiscuity. He emphasized that through disciplined saving, they could secure loans from banks, allowing for the expansion of their bodaboda businesses and overall financial improvement.
“If you are focused, this motorcycle can produce another motorcycle in one year, and in two to three years, it can produce more than two motorcycles. It is possible if you are serious, and this can help you to improve on income,” said MP Obama.
David Wamani Ssalongo, the chairperson of Twekambe Shell Stage Bodaboda Number One Group, expressed excitement over the donation of the motorcycle, highlighting its significance as a potential source of income for the group. He mentioned that their written request to MP Obama seeking support for income generation had been answered, and they were grateful for the opportunity.
Sunday Barya, the councillor for Kichwamba ward in Hoima East division, commended MP Obama for supporting various groups in the area financially. He recognized the positive impact of such initiatives, noting that the assistance provided by the Isingoma Mwesigwa Development Foundation is helping the active poor in the community to enhance their household income.
