A side event focusing on economic inclusion, peace, and security will headline the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) discussions in a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, UN Women, and civil society. The event is scheduled to take place at the Skyz Hotel in Kampala on Wednesday.
Patricia Munabi Babiha, the executive director of the Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), expressed that the gathering aims to review and assess the progress made since the 18th summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. The participants will delve into the challenges that persist and explore opportunities for member countries.
Babiha emphasized the importance of generating innovative ideas to advance women’s rights in NAM countries. She anticipates a strengthened commitment from NAM countries and stakeholders toward gender equality and women empowerment by the end of the event.
The strategic placement of this gathering aims to ensure that the outcomes contribute to discussions at the ongoing heads of the summit meeting scheduled until the end of the week. Babiha extended an invitation to NAM member states, leaders, civil society organizations, activists, and women’s rights advocates to actively participate in this transformative event.
Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, Minister Betty Amongi, along with Commissioner Angela Nakafeero, highlighted that the event would receive the declaration made in Baku, Azerbaijan. This declaration underscores the strategy necessary to integrate women’s issues within NAM’s operation and strategy over the next three years.
