The Palaro Chiefdom in Adjumani District is facing financial challenges in preparing for the inauguration of their clan chief, Zachary Opi Beker, scheduled for January 25 in Pakele Town Council. The event is expected to host the Presidential Advisor on Special Operations and First Son, Gen Mohoozi Kainerugaba, as the chief guest.
The organizing committee, headed by Mr. Alfred Okuga, has disclosed that only Shs2 million of the required Shs400 million is currently available. Okuga highlighted the significance of the event and the need for financial support to ensure a successful installation of the cultural chief.
Chief Beker noted that they have written to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba through Adjumani District Chairman, Mr. Ben Anyama, and are awaiting feedback. He emphasized the crucial role of cultural institutions in molding young people and fostering societal values.
To raise funds for the ceremony, the organizing committee plans to approach local cultural chiefs, government officials, and district authorities. Mr. Julius Nyerere, committee chairperson, revealed plans to launch the MK Movement in the Madi Sub-region during the event, anticipating an attendance of over 50,000 people.
Amid the financial challenges, Palaro clan elder Mr. John Mani urged subjects to actively engage in the mobilization drive. He emphasized that the event goes beyond feasting, serving as a deep reflection on unity and development for the people of Palaro and the Madi cultural institution.
The inauguration of the Palaro Clan Chief follows the approval of 11 chiefs in Adjumani by the district council on October 30, 2023, restoring cultural institutions after their ban in 1966 by then-President Milton Obote. Mr. Beker will succeed Virgilio Drani, who passed away in 2001.
