President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the nation on Thursday at 8 PM in anticipation of the 38th National Liberation Day (NRM) anniversary, scheduled for Friday, January 26. The virtual speech will be broadcast on major television and radio stations, as well as online platforms, according to the Presidential Press Unit (PPU).

The celebrations, themed “Building a Country We Shall All Cherish,” will take place at St John SS Wakitaka in Jinja northern division, Jinja City. President Museveni is expected to be the chief guest. Over 50 individuals, including former Kyabazinga of Busoga His Royal Highness Henry Wako Muloki, will receive medals for their contributions to the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation struggle.

Similar to previous post-COVID-19 liberation celebrations, this year’s event will be open to the general public, with only VIP tent guests required to provide proof of their Covid-19 test results. Residents were warned against making individual demands to the president during the celebrations, with instructions to submit petitions to the Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for delivery to the President.

Busoga sub-region, identified as one of the poverty-stricken areas, reflects the political landscape, with the NRM presidential candidate winning in three out of the 12 districts, while National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi emerged victorious in the rest.
