Lightning Strikes Claim Lives of Three Women in Kisoro and Iganga

Lightning struck and claimed the lives of three women in western Uganda’s Kisoro District and eastern Uganda’s Iganga District in separate incidents on Friday. The victims include 18-year-old Florence Twizerimana from Rikofe village in Chibumba parish, Murora Sub County, Kisoro District, and 63-year-old Flora Nyirandabazi from Chibumba ward in Chahafi town council, Kisoro district.

The tragic events occurred around 5:30 PM on February 2, 2024, while Twizerimana was returning from a local market, and Nyirandabazi was walking back from her garden. They were struck as they walked together along the pathway. Passersby discovered their bodies and promptly reported the incident to the authorities.




Kigezi regional police spokesman, Mr. Elly Maate, confirmed the deaths, describing the incidents as a natural calamity beyond human control. The bodies were handed over to the relatives for burial, and the case has been recorded at Kisoro police station under DEF 02/2024.




The same day, in Iganga District, another woman, Joy Kanage, a teacher at Nambale Primary School in Nambale sub-county, was also struck dead by lightning while walking in the school compound. Nambale sub-county LC3 chairman, Mr. Nasur Ibanda, reported the incident.
