Residents of Tororo district are in a state of panic as the area has witnessed over 10 murders since January, with bodaboda riders being the primary targets. The recent discovery of two bodies, one placed on a railway line and another found in a pool of blood, has heightened fear and unease among the residents.
Bukedi South acting Police spokesperson, Johnson Moses Mugwe, confirmed the incidents and stated that investigations are underway. He urged the public to cooperate with the police and provide any relevant information.
Efforts to address the situation include community policing programs to raise awareness and enhance vigilance. The district Police commander, Adams Kimuli, assured residents of regular patrols and security measures in collaboration with the military.
However, district chairperson John Okea criticized the Police leadership, accusing them of inefficiency and collusion with wrongdoers. Okea and Tororo deputy Resident District Commissioner Albert Amula are calling for the transfer of Kimuli, alleging his inadequate response to the escalating violence.
