Bukoto South MP Twaha Kagabo and Njeru municipality MP Jimmy Lwanga, both Members of Parliament from the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), have declared their allegiance to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s new initiative, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), formerly known as the MK movement.
Addressing a large gathering at Saddler Lane, Naguru-Kampala city suburbs for the PLU launch, Kagabo stated, “I am a member of the MK movement, a well-wisher of the NRM party, and sometime soon, I will be a member of PLU. I am saying so because I am doing my trials in PLU.” He expressed doubts about continuing trials with NUP, labeling it as a club of failures incapable of winning in politics.
Similarly, Lwanga expressed his support for PLU, stating, “I came on the NUP ticket to parliament but I am glad today that I have woken up from dreaming to reality.” He emphasized the need for continuity of services for his constituency through PLU and expressed confidence in Gen. Muhoozi’s leadership.
According to Micheal Mawanda, a member of the central committee and Igara county MP, PLU is a non-partisan, non-denominational, and non-sectarian organization. He clarified that while some viewed the MK movement as Gen. Muhoozi’s personal project, it was founded on principles beyond an individual, with the initials MK representing Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The launch of PLU also saw the endorsement of several ministers, including Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga, Minister of State for National Guidance; Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries; Harriet Ntabazi, State Minister for Trade; Margaret Muhanga, State Minister for Primary Healthcare; Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, State Minister for Microfinance; and Diana Mutasingwa Kagyenyi, Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President of Uganda.
