Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV revealed plans for various sectors aimed at transforming livelihoods within the kingdom in an address during the first Busoga Lukiiko session of 2024, held at the Busoga Kingdom headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja City. The assembly, comprising Kingdom Ministers, Royal Chiefs, and Clan Heads, convened under the leadership of Speaker George Mutyabule.
The Kyabazinga emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in advancing the development agenda, drawing parallels with the momentum witnessed during the Busoga Royal wedding. He urged his subjects to sustain this momentum to combat poverty, disease, and ignorance effectively.
Key areas of focus outlined by the Kyabazinga included Education, Tourism, Health, and Sports. In the realm of Tourism Promotion, he pledged continued support for domestic tourism in collaboration with the central government, aiming to bolster economic sustainability in the region. The Kyabazinga commended stakeholders for their efforts in organizing successful initiatives such as the Explore Busoga expedition, aimed at showcasing the kingdom’s diverse tourist attractions.
Education emerged as another priority, with the Kingdom’s commitment to providing bursaries to vulnerable children across all education levels. Partnerships with schools and universities were highlighted as essential in ensuring access to educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth.
The Kyabazinga also underscored the importance of Sports in talent promotion, announcing plans to expand sporting activities within the kingdom’s calendar. Additionally, in the Health sector, initiatives such as health camps and partnerships with organizations like the Busoga Health Forum were highlighted to address prevalent health challenges.
A notable announcement pertained to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to combat Hydrocephalus disease in partnership with the National Planning Authority, Ministry of Health, Yale University, and Cure hospital in Mbale.
During the assembly, Dr. Muvawala, Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, urged the Kyabazinga to remind President Yoweri Museveni of pending pledges, including the tarmacking of the Budondo-Kamuli-Bukungu road. Additionally, he called for dialogue on the issue of sugarcane growing in the region.
Dignitaries in attendance included Royal Chiefs and representatives from various sectors, underscoring the significance of the inaugural Lukiiko session in shaping Busoga’s development trajectory.
