Daniel Bbosa, a prominent leader of the Ndiga (sheep) clan in Buganda, was brutally gunned down near his residence in Lungujja parish, Lubaga Division, Kampala in a shocking incident in Sunday afternoon. The assailants responsible for the attack were swiftly apprehended by an enraged mob and met with instant justice.

Bbosa’s tragic demise occurred while he was driving his vehicle, identified by its registration number as UAH 637X, as depicted in images shared by the Buganda kingdom website and circulated on various social media platforms.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala police, confirmed the fatal shooting, acknowledging that Bbosa, a revered clan leader, had indeed been ruthlessly gunned down. Additionally, he confirmed that the two perpetrators were subsequently pursued by an outraged crowd, resulting in their demise. Both the firearm used in the attack and the motorcycle utilized by the assailants were recovered from the scene by law enforcement authorities.

Despite the swift response of the police from Old and Katwe policing divisions, who arrived promptly at the crime scene, the perpetrators had already been lynched by the mob before they could be apprehended.

The motive behind Bbosa’s assassination remains unclear, leaving authorities and the community puzzled by the tragic turn of events. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as law enforcement officials seek to unravel the circumstances surrounding the targeted attack on the esteemed clan leader.

This appalling incident comes mere days after the release of the 2023 crime report compiled by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), revealing a troubling surge in firearm-related fatalities. According to the report, rifles were implicated in the deaths of over 300 individuals in the preceding year, with at least 22 murders attributed to the use of a single firearm. Notably, the Kampala metropolitan South region, encompassing areas like Lungujja, witnessed a disturbingly high number of shooting-related homicides, underscoring the pressing need for enhanced security measures to combat violent crime in urban and suburban areas.
