The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is set to begin its membership renewal and registration exercise across the country, starting on Wednesday.
Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, head of the Office of National Chairman, announced the commencement of the exercise during a meeting with party mobilizers. The objective of this initiative is to expand the membership base of the ruling party in anticipation of the 2026 general elections.
“The five-day exercise, scheduled from March 13 to 17, will involve both the renewal of existing memberships and the registration of new members. We will also conduct a verification process to ensure the accuracy of the party’s register, removing inactive members, especially those who are deceased,” she stated.
Updating the party register, known as the ‘yellow book’, marks the beginning of preparations for the general elections and serves as the initial phase in the party’s roadmap for internal and general elections, according to Ms. Namyalo.
She emphasized the importance of vigilance during the exercise, urging coordinators to be cautious of corrupt party members who may have personal interests conflicting with party rules. Each district and city coordinator has been assigned the task of securing at least 10 new members from every village.
President Museveni, also the party chairman, emphasized the significance of understanding the four core principles of the NRM: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy. He urged party cadres to utilize these principles in addressing the challenges facing Uganda.
“Mobilization and holding meetings will be more effective if grounded in the principles of the NRM, which serve as a diagnosis of Uganda’s problems. Sensitize Ugandans to bring about the much-needed socio-economic transformation in the country,” President Museveni emphasized during the launch of the exercise last month.
The initiative aims to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and enhance its ability to address the needs of Ugandans effectively.
