President Yoweri Museveni officially inaugurated the Bukedea Teaching Hospital and Bukedea College of Health Sciences, establishments credited to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among. In his remarks, he extended congratulations to Among for her initiative and recognized her as a proactive and effective planner. Emphasizing the importance of foresight in governance, he reiterated the necessity for politicians to shield themselves from debt and bribery pressures through prudent planning, particularly in delivering essential government services.

During a rally held at the Bukedea District Headquarters Grounds, President Museveni reiterated the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) call for citizens to engage in the money economy by participating in four key sectors. He stressed the responsibility of local leaders in elucidating these sectors to the populace, assisting them in selecting the most suitable sector, with assurance of government support facilitated through their respective Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs).

The President expressed gratitude towards Anita Among and other leaders for their roles in advancing the NRM’s agenda. He praised Among’s adeptness in uniting diverse opposition factions and her ability to collaborate harmoniously within the system, noting the rarity of conflicts under her leadership. President Museveni affirmed his willingness to provide any necessary information to Among, discouraging public condemnation on social media.

In response, Speaker Anita Among extended her appreciation to the Ministers and Members of Parliament for their presence at the opening ceremony despite the challenges of distance and adverse weather conditions. She acknowledged their support as invaluable to her and the community, conveying gratitude to those unable to attend for their solidarity. She concluded with blessings for all present and absent, invoking divine blessings upon them.

While acknowledging Anita Among’s role and her apparent success in bridging opposition groups, it’s essential to scrutinize her methods and alliances. Collaboration should not come at the cost of compromising democratic principles or fostering complacency within the political system. The absence of conflicts may signify acquiescence rather than genuine harmony, raising concerns about the integrity of governance and representation.

Genuine progress stems from transparent governance, effective planning, and accountability, which must remain paramount in our pursuit of development and prosperity.

The essence of governance lies not only in initiating projects but also in ensuring their sustainability without burdening the populace with unnecessary debts. Politicians must prioritize proper planning to avoid succumbing to pressures such as bribes while fulfilling the primary role of government in providing essential services.
