Catholic Bishop Severus Jjumba of Masaka Diocese has underscored the importance of impartiality in resolving disputes, particularly by government bodies, to foster communal harmony.

Delivering his Easter message from the Episcopal residence in Kitovu, Nyendo-Mukungwe division, Masaka city, Bishop Jjumba voiced his concern over instances of unfair treatment, particularly towards marginalized individuals, which often results in the infringement of their inherent rights.

Emphasizing the critical role of the judiciary, Bishop Jjumba urged for a firm commitment to fairness in handling land disputes presented before the courts. He highlighted this as a crucial step towards advancing social justice within communities.

Furthermore, Bishop Jjumba called upon the Christian community to refrain from activities that harm the environment while encouraging active support for initiatives aimed at strengthening Basic Christian communities. These communities, adopted by the diocese, serve to fortify faith and play a pivotal role in promoting hygiene, food security, environmental conservation, and responsible waste management at the grassroots level.

In a parallel message, Anglican Bishop Henry Katumba Tamale of West Buganda expressed apprehension regarding the prolonged detention of suspects awaiting trial in various prison facilities.

During prayers held at Mukungwe prison in Nyendo-Mukungwe division, Bishop Katumba urged crime investigation officers within the police force to prioritize the gathering of necessary evidence before arraigning suspects for trial. This, he emphasized, would facilitate the expeditious delivery of justice.
