Abed Bwanika, a Member of Parliament representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), reportedly faced a hostile situation in his own constituency of Kimanya-Kabonera. He was attending a burial event when angry mourners began pelting stones at him and booing him. The crowd was upset with him for defending individuals accused of corruption, such as Mpuuga and Anitah Among.
During the commotion, one person named Kalule voiced his discontent, warning Bwanika about the consequences of taking people for granted. He emphasized that people are well-informed, and praised Bobi Wine for raising political awareness among the populace. Another voter, Roniyo, expressed disapproval of the violent act but acknowledged that reckless statements can have severe consequences, urging individuals to be mindful of the impact of their words.
As a result of the attack, Abed Bwanika, the MP for Kimanya-Kabonera, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Kitovu. The incident occurred due to his remarks against the NUP party and his defense of allegedly corrupt colleagues, Mpuuga and Among.
Activist Toko Godwin condemned the attack, emphasizing the importance of allowing individuals with differing views to express themselves, even if those views are disagreeable. He stressed that those advocating for change have a greater responsibility to demonstrate their commitment to positive transformation without resorting to violence or suppression of opposing voices.
