On Sunday, members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese gathered at Equator Guesthouse to discuss the future of their party. They rejected the idea of forming a new party and instead emphasized the importance of reconciliation within their ranks.

Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Chairperson of FDC in Kasese District, stressed the necessity of resolving internal differences before the 2026 general election. He highlighted the consultations held at various levels within the party, emphasizing the need for reconciliation between different factions.

Acknowledging that mistakes might have occurred among party leaders, Kabuku emphasized the importance of unity over division. He expressed openness to members from both the Katonga and Najjanankumbi factions within FDC.

John Siriwayo, another FDC member, urged the Katonga faction to prioritize reconciliation efforts. He emphasized the love and sacrifice members have for the party, advocating for peaceful resolution of differences.

Wasswa Birigwa, the FDC National Chairperson for the Katonga faction, outlined various options suggested by the FDC National Council, including reconciliation or legal action. He assured members that their desire for reconciliation would be presented at the national delegates’ conference for further discussion.

Dr. Kizza Besigye, the founding president of FDC, cautioned against being distracted by internal disputes, reminding members of the broader struggle for better leadership. He refuted rumors of handing over FDC to another party, reaffirming his dedication to the party’s original goals.

Besigye warned against falling into the trap set by the current government, urging members to remain focused on their ultimate goal: removing Mr. Museveni from power. He emphasized the importance of unity and staying true to the party’s founding principles amidst challenges.
