Abim, Uganda – Political pressure is mounting among the Ethur community in the Karamoja district of Abim, as a section of voters advocates for the return of the former LCV Norman Jimricky Ochero as their MP in 2026.
Many voters, speaking in one-on-one interviews with our reporter last Friday, expressed frustration that some MPs in Abim have been ignoring phone calls from Ethur voters in Labwor county.
Supported by voters in Morulem, Kiru town council, Nyakwai sub-County, Abuk Town Council, and Atunga sub-county, Rtd. Capt. Omara Yuventine Adyeda is gaining traction as the potential next MP of Labwor constituency. Many cite sympathy votes due to his removal from office before his term expired.
Akech Flavia, a 58-year-old woman from Atwilo cell in Abim town Council, pledged to support new political faces in the 2026 Parliamentary race, criticizing incumbent leaders for incompetence.
Owili Apalunee, a 39-year-old woman from Angweri cell, emphasized the need for fresh leadership in parliament, noting a decline in service delivery since Omara’s departure from office.
A resident from Abuk town council highlighted concerns about MPs’ lack of responsiveness and selfish use of funds, vowing not to vote for such leaders.
Another citizen, speaking anonymously from Abim New Corner cell, expressed distress over the suspected corruption (“muyai”) within Labwor leadership, urging for honest representation.
An agent from Yenglemi expressed fervent opposition to an MP’s reelection, even considering fasting as a protest.
A 22-year-old from Adwal suggested that cattle rustling has increased since Omara left office, attributing peace during his tenure to his potential candidacy.
Efforts to reach MP Hon. Norman Jimricky Ochero and Hon. Akech Janet Okorimoi were unsuccessful as they did not respond to repeated phone calls over two days.
