Lira, Uganda – Over 500 individuals graduated from the Lango Presidential Industrial Hubs located at Lira University. A number of beneficiaries testified about their success stories before the State House Comptroller and Government Chief Whip.
The more than 500 students graduated on Thursday, completing courses in seven different disciplines. The manager of the Lango Zonal Hub commended the UPDF for its significant role in changing the mindset of the youth.
There are seven courses offered with 13 instructors at the Lango Zonal Presidential Skilling Hubs. Among the talented beneficiaries who gave live testimonies of their successful stories was Ogwal Gilbert from Ajuri County, Alebtong District. He narrated how his life had been transformed through bakery skills and how he is now earning a livelihood. He emphasized the necessity of effort, likening it to milking a cow.
Charity Alum from Amolatar, now a housewife, expressed how her life had become easier after acquiring knowledge from the skilling hub. Jacob Liberty Okullu, another successful beneficiary, stated that knowledge is power. After completing his course, he is now self-sufficient and able to support his family without relying on others.
Fiona Angom from Apac District testified that she is no longer dependent on others after leaving the presidential hub. She has started a successful business and is earning a substantial income.
Dr. Michael Okumu, Director of the Industrial Hub, highlighted their collaboration with State House and the training provided in line with the NRM manifesto. He mentioned that they have 19 hubs currently, with a promise from the President to increase the number to 33.
Idha Koma Stephen, acting Commissioner in charge of district inspection, expressed gratitude for the peace brought by the President after years of insecurity in Northern Uganda.
Brigadier Keith Katungi, 5th Division Commander, emphasized the role of the UPDF as outlined in articles 208 and 209. He urged graduates to unlock their potential, focus on value addition, and avoid negative influences.
Jane Barikye, the State House Comptroller, thanked the UPDF for their contribution to the success of the Presidential Hubs. She commended RDC Abdul George for his administration of the Lango Presidential Skilling Hubs.
Hon. Obua Denis Hamson, the Government Chief Whip and Ajuri County MP of Alebtong District, officiated the function. He encouraged graduates to take advantage of government programs like Emyooga and PDM and promised to share the benefits of the presidential skilling hubs with Members of Parliament during the NRM caucus meeting.
