On June 3rd, the global Christian community joins Uganda in commemorating the 45 Uganda martyrs, 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican, who were persecuted and martyred during the tyrannical rule of Kabaka Mwanga. Their story serves as a testament to their unwavering faith, strength, and dedication to God and their nation.
In alignment with this significant event, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has pledged its support to the Nebbi Diocese’s “Namugongo Fundraising Drive.” This initiative, led by the 21-year-old North Western establishment, aims to raise approximately UGX 1.3 billion to facilitate this year’s celebrations.
Yesterday, URA welcomed His Grace, The Most Reverend Raphael P’Mony Wokorach, the Archbishop Designate of Gulu Archdiocese and Bishop of Gulu, as part of the fundraising efforts. During the Holy Mass, Herbert Rusoke, the Commissioner of Internal Audit, expressed gratitude to the URA community for their generous contributions towards the cause.
Rusoke announced that URA had pledged UGX 20 million, with a collection of UGX 13,800,200 from staff contributions. Additionally, as a corporate entity, URA officially donated shs 5 million, which will be directly wired to the designated bank accounts for the fundraising drive.
In his sermon, Archbishop Wokorach urged the URA community to prioritize service and diligence in their duties, emphasizing the importance of being a blessing to those they serve. He encouraged them to dedicate themselves to their vocation with excellence, striving to make a positive impact in their daily work.
Acknowledging the foundational role of URA in the country’s development, Archbishop Wokorach commended the revenue body for its continuous improvement and service to Ugandans. He emphasized the divine mandate of managing finances and expressed hope that the celebration of Martyrs Day would inspire integrity and divine intervention in URA’s operations.
The Chaplain and URA Catholic community emphasized the importance of mindful decision-making and informed actions. He urged the faithful to pause and reflect before making choices, advocating for integrity and responsibility in all endeavors.
Stephen Paul Ojambo, Chairman of the URA Catholic Community and Manager of Customs, reiterated URA’s commitment to supporting the church’s efforts in mobilizing the pledged funds. He emphasized that the cause extends beyond the Catholic community, encompassing the entire Ugandan community, fostering unity and collaboration for a common purpose.
