The National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s largest opposition party, held a public address on 13th May at their headquarters in Makerere-Kavule. The event covered various pressing issues, including sanctions and the ongoing persecution of NUP leaders and supporters. Additionally, the party welcomed a delegation of leaders from the Greater Mukono sub-region, led by ‘Madam Teacher’ Hon. Betty Nambooze.
During the address, emphasis was placed on the importance of citizens exposing human rights violations, corruption, abuse of office, and other injustices perpetrated by officials and servants of the Ugandan regime. The proactive stance in defending these core values is seen as crucial for transforming the country into one that all citizens can be proud of.
NUP leaders also highlighted their involvement in initiatives aimed at holding accountable those individuals responsible for undermining the country. These initiatives involve engaging with foreign leaders and decision-makers to mobilize international action against those contributing to the suffering of Ugandans. Anticipating further sanctions, the party is actively seeking justice and accountability.
The address concluded with a message directed towards comrades who have strayed from the cause of freedom in exchange for personal gain. They were reminded that they would always be welcomed back into the fold if they reconsider their decisions. However, they would only be accepted as ordinary members of the revolution, regardless of any previous titles or ranks they held before aligning with the oppressors.
In closing, the importance of keeping missing comrades and individuals detained without trial in thoughts and prayers was emphasized.
