Albertine Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of a fatal accident that claimed the lives of three people and left two critically injured in Nankurabye trading center, Kagadi town council, along the Kagadi-Hoima Road.
The deceased have been identified as Joseph Mwesige, 32 years old, the driver of Taata Truck Reg.no. UBJ 213C and an employee of Kyenjojo Sugar Factory; Businge Tumusiime, 32 years old, the driver of Fuso Truck Reg.no. UBK 227U from Kigoye Cell in Kyenzige town council; and Patrick Katwesige, 24 years old, who was an occupant in the Kyenjojo Sugar Factory truck and succumbed to his injuries later at Dr. Kakibogo’s clinic in Kagadi town.
Other victims, Nicholas Mulindwa, 19 years old, and Nicholas Kayemba, 30 years old, are nursing serious injuries.
The accident occurred this afternoon when the truck, which was not loaded with canes and was riding empty from Kyenjojo, had a head-on collision with the Fuso Truck coming from Kyenzige and heading to Kagadi town.
The Albertine regional Police Spokesperson, SP Allan Julius Hakiza, has attributed the cause of the fatal accident to drunk driving. It is reported that the driver of the Fuso Truck was seen consuming alcohol in one of the bars in Kyenzige before setting off to Kagadi town.
Hakiza has warned drivers against drunk driving to minimize road accidents and ensure their safety.
