National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Vice Chairman in charge of Central Uganda, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, has commissioned all the newly appointed Resident District/City Commissioners as new change agents in his socio-economic transformation campaign, which is set to roll out across the country.

The development occurred while the former Minister was delivering a lecture on Wealth Creation to the group currently undergoing a two-week induction workshop at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

Kiwanda, who has since positioned himself as a torchbearer in the fight against poverty, challenged the new appointees to take the lead in the push for better lives for the common people, as preached by President Museveni over the years.

Kiwanda challenged the Assistant RDCs to lead from the front if meaningful economic transformation is to be achieved. He expressed concerns that despite the various poverty alleviation interventions put in place by the government, people have remained perennially poor partly because leaders have not done enough to mobilize, advise, and empower their communities.

He described the appointment of the new officers as a new beginning in the struggle for better living conditions, adding that there couldn’t have been a better time for the President to revitalize anti-poverty interventions by bringing a new force onboard.

Kiwanda also cautioned the officials against the mentality of “do what I say but not what I do,” arguing that they should practically embrace wealth creation efforts by engaging in productive activities, which he says will work to inspire their communities.

Kiwanda assured the group of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s full blessings and participation in the program, revealing that the Head of State will be physically attending the different socio-economic transformation workshops planned for next month in Buganda.

According to the ruling party’s number four, his group will be working with the new Resident Commissioners to coordinate Kisoboka activities in the different districts across the country as a way of speeding up efforts to redeem the country from abject poverty.

Kiwanda also addressed concerns by the group over difficulties in acquiring land in various parts of the country, including government-owned land monopolized by a few people. He advised people to promote the use of small land plots for productive activities, giving examples of success stories from farmers operating on land as small as 12.6 decimal points.

He also cautioned against the mentality of concentrating on growing low-value but land-intensive crops like sugar cane in Busoga.
