A group of youth took to the streets of downtown Kampala today, ostensibly protesting the sanctions imposed on Speaker Anita Among. But behind the scenes, a farcical mobilization effort unfolded, orchestrated by shadowy figures and fueled by promises of cash rewards, according to impeccable sources.

The youthful troupe, numbering a mere 15, brandished placards and chanted slogans like “Free Anita Among,” their faces obscured by the very signs they wielded as shields against identification. Curiously, the police, known for their swift response to any hint of public unrest, stood idly by, allowing the spectacle to proceed unimpeded.

Reports suggest that the motley crew was marshaled into action by three Members of Parliament, purportedly from Teso and West Nile regions. Each participant was allegedly promised a handsome sum of Shs 100,000 for their enthusiastic participation in the demonstration. Sources reveal that an intermediary, acting on behalf of one of the MPs, distributed a down payment of Shs 20,000 to each recruit, with assurances of the remainder to be disbursed post-demonstration.

It appears these MPs have long been staunch supporters of Speaker Among, perhaps owing to their favorable treatment at her hands in the past. Rumors abound that they have been the recipients of her generosity on multiple occasions, a fact that undoubtedly endeared them to her cause.

Insiders whisper of a clandestine operation that began to take shape over the weekend, with the mobilization effort targeting youths frequenting Arua Park. These unsuspecting individuals, accustomed to the hustle and bustle of loading and offloading vehicles, were approached by agents of one of the MPs and enticed with promises of “work to do.” However, the recruitment drive fell short of its ambitious goal of 100 participants, as some demurred, demanding higher compensation for their involvement. Allegedly, one of the ringleaders operates from the notorious Nyumba Kubwa building in the Arua Park area, orchestrating the dubious endeavor from the shadows.

In a bizarre twist, reports indicate that an emissary of one of the MPs made a surreptitious delivery of manila papers to the assembled throng this morning, bearing inscriptions lauding the virtues of Speaker Among. However, questions linger unanswered: Did these MPs inform the speaker of their dubious plans? And, if so, did she tacitly condone their actions, or was she kept in the dark about their clandestine machinations?

Was this a genuine expression of support for Speaker Among, or merely a farcical charade orchestrated by opportunistic individuals? The streets of downtown Kampala have witnessed many spectacles, but none perhaps as perplexing as this comical display of political puppetry.
