Eight Arrested in Major Counterfeit Money Raid on Nasser Road

Details of the Operation

On the afternoon of June 11, 2024, the Directorate of Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a successful operation at Elite Arcade on Nasser Road, shop A-08, in Kampala. This operation led to the arrest of eight suspects who were involved in the distribution, production, and sale of counterfeit money.

Arrest of Key Suspects

The main suspect, Mukasa Ronald, was arrested along with his associates: Mugumya Geey, Brian Abaho, Joel Kagame, Ogadi Ronald, Namuwaya Shadia, Segwayi Rodgers, and Abu Mayanja. These individuals were identified as key players in the counterfeit money ring.




Recovery of Counterfeit Money and Materials

During the operation, the police recovered counterfeit money in various currencies. These included Ugandan shillings, South Sudanese pounds, US dollars, euros, Rwandan francs, UK pounds, Kuwaiti dinars, and several other currencies. In addition to the fake money, the police also seized materials used in the production of counterfeit currency. These materials included films, papers with images, chemicals, CPUs, monitors, digital printers, and suspected forged land titles and academic documents.




Charges and Legal Proceedings

Assistant Superintendent of Police and Deputy Police Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Area, Luke Owoyesigyire, stated that the suspects will be charged with dealing in counterfeits. They will be presented in court once the investigations are concluded. The police are dedicated to combating counterfeit operations and ensuring the integrity of the financial system.
