Over 400 residents of Buhuka Parish in Kyangwali Sub County, Kikuube District, accessed crucial healthcare services through a free medical camp organized by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Uganda Limited in collaboration with the Chinese medical team in Uganda.

The two-day medical camp, held at Buhuka Health Center III in Nsonga Landing Site Village from Tuesday to Wednesday, catered to a diverse group of beneficiaries, including community leaders, the elderly, children, youth, and women.

Residents underwent screenings for various health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and received antenatal services, malaria treatment, hypertension and blood pressure checks, eye exams, dental checks, among others. Maternal and child health services were also emphasized during the medical camp.

CNOOC also donated medicines and pediatric supplies to Buhuka Health Center III to enhance health service delivery in the community.

Liu Xiangdong, President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, emphasized that quality healthcare is a fundamental right and highlighted the company’s commitment to improving the health sector in the communities where they operate.

“CNOOC aims to improve access to healthcare and contribute to a healthier future for the people in our operational areas and Uganda as a whole,” Xiangdong said. “We are honored to host this medical camp as part of our commitment to the well-being of Ugandans and strengthening China-Uganda relations. Initiatives like this contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic development and enhance friendship between our nations as we work towards a better future in energy.”

Vincent Alpha Opio, Kikuube LC5 Vice Chairperson, noted that many communities in the Albertine Graben struggle to access comprehensive healthcare services and encouraged oil companies to organize more health camps to improve health awareness and treatment.

Residents such as Joyce Biwaga, diagnosed with blood pressure during the camp, praised CNOOC for the intervention, stating it has helped her understand her health status better and extended healthcare services to the local population.

Rogers Othembi, who has eye complications, appreciated the timely medical camp, citing the financial barriers that prevent many from seeking necessary treatment.

Gloria Musimenta, a resident of Nsonga landing site, urged for monthly free medical camps, highlighting the community’s financial constraints in accessing healthcare.

The medical camp, held under the theme “Empower health, embrace life,” exemplifies CNOOC Uganda Limited’s commitment to supporting community well-being. This event marks the second medical camp organized by CNOOC in the area, following a successful initiative last August where over 500 people received free healthcare services in Buhuka.

CNOOC operates the Kingfisher Oil Field on the shore of Lake Albert in Kikuube District, with activities including the construction of a Central Processing Facility (CPF), drilling of oil wells, installation of flow lines and feeder pipelines, and plans for an oil refinery at Kabaale Parish in Hoima District.
