Mpuuga Urges Unity and Dialogue Among Uganda’s Change-Seeking Forces

Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba emphasizes the need for honest dialogue among change-seeking forces to achieve a peaceful transition of power in Uganda.

He asserts that it is time for the country to alter its political trajectory by electing leaders who advocate for peaceful transitions rather than engaging in bitter confrontations.

Addressing a congregation at his thanksgiving mass held at Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka City on Friday, Mpuuga acknowledged internal conflicts within the National Unity Platform (NUP), his party, and pledged to focus on fostering unity among opposition political parties.

“For over 60 years since independence, we have viewed each other as adversaries. It is now imperative that we identify our differences and unite for the collective progress of our nation,” he remarked.

Mpuuga cautioned change-seeking forces against behaviors like pride, selfishness, and confrontations, asserting that such conduct impedes efforts toward achieving the necessary political transition.

In addition to reconciling and fostering mutual respect within the NUP, Mpuuga stressed the importance of considering the perspectives of all concerned stakeholders in defining the country’s future collectively.

Despite facing criticism, hostility, baseless accusations, and attacks from some quarters within his party, Mpuuga affirmed his commitment to upholding principles of good governance.

Mpuuga has been in disagreement with the top leadership of NUP after being directed to resign from the Parliamentary Commission due to his receipt of a 500 million shillings “service award” while serving as Leader of the Opposition.

He noted the challenges of leadership, particularly in dealing with egocentric individuals and those ill-prepared for leadership roles.

Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Ssegona urged NUP’s leadership to resolve internal disputes and enforce discipline among members, expressing optimism that the party can regain public trust as a viable alternative to the current government.

Monsignor John Baptist Ssebayigga, representing Kampala Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere at the mass, called on leaders at all levels to prioritize unity and fairness for the country’s greater good.
