Okwir Mohamed, the LC3 Chairman of Adilang Sub-county in Agago District, has disclosed that Karamojong cattle rustlers killed six people and injured nine others last year. He mentioned that there is currently a prevailing peace in Adilang Sub-county and the bordering districts due to the army’s deployment in the area, which has significantly reduced cattle rustling.
Mohamed also praised and commended Brigadier General Faith Katungi, the commander of the 5th Division, for her efforts in maintaining peace in Agago District and surrounding areas under the 5th Division’s jurisdiction.
He narrated that Brigadier Faith Katungi has brought about tremendous change since initiating operations along the border sub-counties in Agago, allowing the Wanahinci community to now sleep peacefully compared to three years ago.
Mohamed also criticized individuals from Adilang, Lapono, and Abim District who engage in local theft among their own communities. He warned that anyone caught stealing animals from the community will face legal consequences.
He added that ten cattle rustlers armed with bows and arrows were recently sighted around Adilang Sub-county. However, Mohamed assured that they no longer pose a threat to the people of Agago District as the UPDF under Brig. Gen. Katungi’s leadership has been closely monitoring and controlling them.
