Jackson Aryampa, a former candidate for the Mbale City Northern division parliamentary seat, is currently in custody at Nakaloke Central Police Station. He stands accused of defiling a 14-year-old pupil at Model Nursery and Primary School, where he holds a directorial position.
Aryampa was arrested last Wednesday and has been formally charged under Section 129 (1) of the Penal Code for defilement. The Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Rogers Taitika, confirmed that Aryampa’s case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further action.
The teenager’s father has criticized the police for what he perceives as mishandling of the case file, alleging that Aryampa should have been presented in court within 48 hours of his arrest. He expressed frustration over delays and inconsistencies in communication from the police regarding the status of the case.
On Monday morning, he visited Nakaloke CPS to inquire about the case file and was informed by a police officer that it had already been dispatched to the DPP’s office but had not yet arrived by the time of his visit.
Our attempts to reach Aryampa for his side of the story were unsuccessful.
Under the Penal Code Act, any sexual act with a person under the age of eighteen constitutes the felony of defilement, carrying a possible sentence of life imprisonment upon conviction.
Furthermore, in cases of conviction under Section 129, the court may order the offender to compensate the victim for any physical, sexual, or psychological harm caused by the offense, in addition to any other sentence imposed.
