The North Kyoga Region police PRO, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema has issued a statement regarding an incident of attempted murder in Apac District, documented under CRB 463/2024.
According to SP Okema, the Apac District territorial police are currently detaining two police officers and three other individuals to aid in the investigation of an alleged attempted murder involving Ayomu Paul, a 20-year-old resident of Tebu cell, Tebu ward, Apac Municipality. The incident took place on July 11, 2024, at approximately 16:06 hours in Nightngali cell, Duluwero ward, Akere Division, Apac Municipality.
D/IP Ekwire Patrick, a 56-year-old police officer from Apac Central Police Station, reported the incident to the police.
Reportedly, on July 11, 2024, at around 14:20 hours, Police Constable Nasasira Ambrose and CPL Oguna Tonny left the station to arrest Ogwal Jimmy at Nightngali cell, Duluwero Ward, Akere Division, Apac Municipality, on charges of grievous harm. Upon encountering resistance from members of the public accompanying the suspect, chaos ensued, during which Ayomu Paul allegedly attempted to disarm PC Nasasira Ambrose. In response to this threat, Ambrose shot Ayomu Paul in the leg in self-defense.
The two police officers are facing charges of attempted murder, while Ogwal Jimmy, Private Otim Solomon (attached to SFC Nebbi), and Oloyo Moses (a local boda boda rider) are charged with obstructing police officers while on official duty.
A team from the homicide and SOCO units visited the scene of the crime. All suspects have been apprehended and are being held at CPS Apac, while Ayomu Paul received medical treatment at Apac Main Hospital.
Statements from eyewitnesses have been obtained, and SP Okema confirmed that once investigations are concluded with evidence, all case files will be compiled and submitted to RCSA for review and legal advice.
SP Okema emphasized the importance of respecting police personnel on duty, urging the public to cooperate with police investigations by providing statements when required, thereby ensuring fair and thorough judicial processes.
