Opposition Leader Accuses Regime of Brutal Raid on Comrade’s Home
Opposition leader Bobi Wine, of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has made a grave accusation against the Ugandan military, alleging a violent and unlawful raid on the home of Achileo Kivumbi, a member of his party. According to Bobi Wine, the raid involved operatives from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT), who forcibly entered Kivumbi’s residence, brutalized him, and intimidated his neighbors.
A few moments ago, the military (CMI/ JATT operatives) raided the home of comrade Achileo Kivumbi and forced their way into his house. They closed themselves in the house together with Achileo and his wife. Other soldiers surrounded the house and ensured no other person entered. The neighbors were all harassed and chased off.
Bobi Wine’s announcement describes a scene of extreme violence and intimidation. He claims that military personnel invaded Kivumbi’s home, isolated him and his wife, and conducted a search. The soldiers reportedly seized two military insignia for the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and demanded that Kivumbi sign documents acknowledging their presence. When he refused, they allegedly assaulted him severely in front of his wife. The wife has reportedly stated that Kivumbi’s body showed signs of extensive torture and sleep deprivation.
Upon entering the house, they produced two UPDF pips for the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and ordered Achileo to sign that they were found in his house! He tried to protest and they beat him so badly in the presence of his wife. His wife says that his body is swollen and bears evidence of so much torture and sleep deprivation!
The opposition leader has condemned these actions as indicative of a regime engaging in criminal behavior and violating human rights. He claimed that the Ugandan government is preparing to bring baseless charges against Kivumbi, mirroring a pattern of legal abuses against opposition figures.
It is clear the criminal regime wants to charge him before the military court over trumped up charges, like they have done to so many other comrades. THE WORLD IS WATCHING. There must and shall be accountability for all these crimes against humanity.
