(Wakiso) – On August 26, 2024, the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), conducted a series of operations across several areas in Kira municipality. The targeted locations included Kigambo in Mbalwa, Nsawo zone, Kumusenyu in Lukadde Kyaliwajjala, and Buwate, which had been identified as hiding spots for criminals planning illegal activities.

During these operations, law enforcement officers discovered several individuals engaged in smoking opium. As a result, a total of 63 individuals were arrested on the spot. The operation was part of the authorities’ broader strategy to crack down on illegal drug use and related criminal activities in the region.

Following the arrests, a thorough screening process was conducted. Out of the 63 suspects, 51 were found to be in possession of opium. These individuals were subsequently charged with possession of the illegal substance and taken to court, where they were further remanded. The remaining 12 individuals, after undergoing the screening process, were cautioned by the authorities.

The Uganda Police Force, through its spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke stressed the importance of such operations in maintaining law and order. Rusoke explained that the collaboration between the police and the UPDF is essential in addressing criminal activities that threaten public safety.

He added that the police’s approach is not only focused on arresting those involved in illegal activities but also on sending a strong message to the community about the consequences of engaging in such behavior.

He called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities in their communities and concluded by saying the success of such operations depends on the support and vigilance of the public.
