Uganda’s head coach, Charles Onen, believes his team is well-prepared for the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens tournament 2023, which will also serve as a qualification event for the Paris Olympic Games 2024.
The tournament, scheduled for October 14-15, will be hosted in Monastir, Tunisia, and will feature eight teams.
“We’ve been working hard, and our team is in excellent shape. Our players have gained valuable experience, and we are confident they will perform admirably in Tunisia,” said Coach Onen confidently in an interview with Xinhua on Monday.
Uganda is placed in Group A, along with defending champions South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the host nation, Tunisia. In the previous year’s tournament, Uganda finished in fourth place, while Madagascar claimed the runner-up position and Tunisia secured the bronze medal.
Group B comprises Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, and Madagascar. The victor of the tournament will secure an automatic spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
