KISORO, Uganda – During the burial of Benjamin Bivako Christopher (R.I.P) last Saturday in Nyagashinje cell, North ward, Kisoro municipality, Col. Kaita Deo, head of operations for wealth creation in Kisoro district, expressed concern over the outstanding 31 million shilling debt owed by RDC Hasaka to Nakasero Hospital. He questioned why the RDC had not yet settled the bill and why legal action was being pursued.
The RDC, Mr. Nizeye John, who attended the burial ceremony of Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa’s late brother Christopher Bivako (RIP), confirmed the existence of the debt.
Col. Deo Keita, who is also a resident of Kisoro district, expressed his dismay over the situation, considering the significant contributions of the late Mrs. Hashaka Jane to Uganda. She was the wife of a prominent engineer, a close friend of the president, and had played a role in the country’s liberation struggle.
Col. Keita vowed to follow up on the matter and ensure that the debt is addressed.
Residents of Nyagashinje in Kisoro mourned the loss of Mrs. Hashaka Jane, who passed away in 2019 due to kidney dialysis. They appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to intervene and assist the family in settling the 31.6 million shilling debt.
The residents questioned the high medical bill and expressed concern over the legal action taken against the family. They also highlighted the discrepancy between the 500,000 shillings condolence payment received during Mrs. Hashaka’s burial and the substantial debt owed to Nakasero Hospital.
A 67-year-old mother from Kisoro district urged the president’s office to appoint an independent team to investigate both the condolence payment and the 31.6 million shilling debt, calling for government intervention to resolve the matter.
The RDC confirmed his mother’s passing in 2019 and expressed disappointment over the 500,000 shillings condolence payment received. He also acknowledged the ongoing legal proceedings regarding the Nakasero Hospital debt.
