The Assistant RDC of Alebtong District, in charge of Moroto County, Lameck Ongom, has urged the 342 patriots who recently completed a one-week patriotism training to remember the achievements of the NRM government by embracing discipline whenever they are in the community.
Speaking on Friday afternoon at Abia Memorial Technical Institute in Abia Sub-county, Ongom described the training and pass-out ceremony as fantastic.
During his speech before hundreds of patriots and invited guests, ARDC Ongom emphasized that the support provided by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to other technical schools should also be extended to Abia Memorial Technical Institute. He called for the construction of more classroom blocks to enhance the institution’s development.
Ongom appealed to the student patriots to take technical education and patriotism seriously so they can develop into responsible citizens who will guide the country in the right direction in a disciplined manner.
Alebtong DPC SP Joshua Mwesigwa, while addressing the patriots, noted that it was his first visit to Abia Sub-county after spending just a month in Alebtong. He lamented that they had the same pass-out ceremony at Amugu Technical Institute on Wednesday. He stated that one week of training in patriotism is about love and attachment to one’s country, defining love for the country as doing what is right and discouraging wrongdoing, including participating in strikes. DPC SP Joshua warned that many students are lured into criminal acts and urged them to avoid becoming involved with wrong groups such as ‘Owuwuk.’
Alany Stella, the woman councilor representing Abia Sub-county in Alebtong District, expressed concern over the rising rate of suicide among students, lamenting the tragic news of student suicides as deeply painful.
Samuel Eyabu appreciated Assistant RDC Ongom Lameck for good coordination and encouraged parents to send more students to Abia War Memorial Technical Institute, built in memory of the 139 people who were killed on February 4, 2004, during the LRA insurgency.
LC3 Chairman of Abia Sub-county, Akung James Wapakabulu, outlined the four principles of the NRM party: patriotism, socio-economic transformation, among others. He encouraged the youth to steer clear of criminal gangs like ‘Owuwuk’ and to focus on technical education and patriotism clubs to become disciplined and self-reliant in the future.
The guest of honor for the ceremony was former Woman Member of Parliament for Alebtong District, Acen Christine Ayoo, who urged the students to work hard to achieve their dreams and transform society, citing her own upbringing in a family that valued technical education. She thanked the CAO of Alebtong District for being a true cadre who has mastered NRM ideology and consistently promotes NRM programs.
Ayoo shared her testimony about her political support for Sam Engola, mentioning how she would discuss her political ambitions with her father. She emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to youth involvement in criminal activities like ‘Owuwuk,’ particularly among those aged 30 and below between Abako and Amugu, recounting an incident where three boys attempted to steal her motorcycle because they recognized her.
