NUP denied claims by NBS TV that its offices in Northern Uganda have closed, demanding a retraction and apology for spreading misinformation.

(Kampala) – The National Unity Platform (NUP) has refuted claims made by NBS Television that the party’s offices in Northern Uganda have closed, accusing the broadcaster of spreading false and malicious information. NUP leadership has strongly condemned the report, which suggested that the party lacks organizational structures in the northern region, as the country approaches the next general election.

In a statement released on social media, NUP clarified that it operates five offices in Northern Uganda, located in Gulu, Lira, Arua, Moroto, and Koboko. The party emphasized that these offices remain open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and are staffed by administrators who oversee the party’s activities in the region. According to the party, no effort was made by NBS to verify the accuracy of their report, as they could have easily visited the offices during working hours.

NUP further explained that it has mobilization committees in every district across Uganda, including in the north. These committees, which reach down to the village level, are currently serving as provisional structures until the party’s new constitution is gazetted. Once this process is completed, the party plans to establish formal constitutional structures throughout the country.

NUP expressed deep concern about what it described as deliberate misinformation from NBS, calling for the station to retract its story and issue an apology to the people of Uganda. The party warned that failure to do so could be interpreted as an attempt to discredit NUP ahead of the upcoming elections, and possibly aid in election rigging by portraying the party as lacking a presence in Northern Uganda.
