Two young individuals in Obongi District are reaping the rewards of their entrepreneurial spirit after utilizing PDM funds to establish a profitable water melon project. They have already earned over 7 million shillings.
Cosmas Adyebo, a recent civil engineering diploma graduate residing in Jordan Cell, Yakinemiji Ward, Obongi Town Council, received a one million shilling grant from the Yakinemiji PDM SACCO. He partnered with Dradebo Adam, an unemployed secondary school teacher, to initiate a water melon farming venture as a means of generating income.
Together, they invested 800,000 shillings each to cultivate water melons on a one-and-a-half-acre plot in August.
On Thursday, the duo met with the Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, at their farm during the water melon harvest.
According to the RDC, they informed him that they had already earned over 4 million shillings and anticipated an additional 3 million shillings in the following week due to strong market demand for their water melons.
They identified a lack of irrigation as their primary challenge.
The RDC pledged to discuss the issue with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to explore potential irrigation solutions or connect them with organizations that could provide subsidized irrigation services.
Cosmas Adyebo and Dradebo Adam expressed their aspiration to venture into poultry farming in the future.
RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka encouraged other PDM beneficiaries to follow the example of these two young entrepreneurs and embark on income-generating projects.
