A speeding bus collided with a convoy carrying senior military and government officials in Nakasongola, leaving multiple dignitaries injured and investigations underway.

(Nakasongola) – Several high ranking military officers and government officials were injured in a severe road crash on the Kampala-Gulu highway on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The accident occurred at Namunsaala village in Kakooge town council, Nakasongola district.

The crash involved a speeding bus, registration number UAQ 602W, driven by Twaha Onzima, which reportedly lost control while overtaking a truck, registration number UBM 346J. The bus rammed into a convoy carrying high-profile dignitaries.

The convoy was traveling northward from Kampala toward Gulu when the incident unfolded. Eyewitness accounts described scenes of chaos, with multiple vehicles severely damaged and emergency responders rushing to the site to assist the injured.




Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation

Savannah Regional Police and Brig. Gen. Charles Byanyima were among the first responders at the scene. Security teams worked swiftly to secure the area and transport the injured to Bombo Military Hospital for treatment.




Hospital sources have not disclosed the conditions of the victims but assured that medical teams are providing critical care to stabilize all those involved.

The vehicles involved in the accident were towed to the Kakooge Checkpoint Parking Yard for further inspection. Police and military investigators are examining the scene to determine the cause of the crash and assess whether reckless driving or other factors were involved.
