Agago, Uganda – Contesting under the NRM party ticket, Mr. Okello Wilfred Ateng has officially declared his intention to run for the position of Agago District LCV Chairman in the 2026 elections.

Last week, at Kwonkic Trading Centre, Lamiyo Sub-county, Agago District, Ateng addressed voters, expressing his confidence in winning the upcoming election.

A popular trader at Kwonkic Trading Centre raised concerns about the poor state of roads and emphasized the need for equality in resource distribution and improvements in education. These, he said, should be key priorities for the new 2026 Agago District LCV Chairman.

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, urged Ateng to focus on health-related issues, particularly upgrading Patongo Health Centre into a district hospital that could serve both Agago West Constituency and Agago County.

Currently, Agago District is being led by Hon. Ojok Leonard Opio, who was elected for the 2021-2026 term and is diligently serving his term.

Mr. Otto Wilson, from Arum Sub-county in Agago West Constituency, is also emerging as a contender for the LCV Chairman position. He is gaining significant support from youth and women, who view him as a vibrant aspirant with a clear agenda.

Meanwhile, the political heat is rising in the race for Agago Woman MP as FDC’s Akello Judith Franka seeks to reclaim her seat from Hon. Minister Beatrice Akello Akori (NRM) in the 2026 general election. Akello is well-known for her polite leadership and for distributing hand hoes to all households in Agago District during her tenure in the 10th Parliament.

In a related development, former Agago County MP Otto Edward Makmot, commonly known as “Raa,” is gearing up to reclaim his seat from Hon. MP Lagen David Atuka as the 2026 elections approach. Lagen, who was elected to Parliament for the first time, garnered strong support from voters and earned the nickname “Lucan Ojemo.”

However, many voters in Agago District are calling for a peaceful leader who can unite the people politically, socially, and economically while focusing on wealth creation and service delivery in 2026.

Minister Beatrice Akori also continues to wield significant influence in Agago District politics, as she is known to be an effective NRM mobilizer in the current political climate.
