Celebrated Catholic Priest and gospel musician, Fr. Anthony Musaala, has expressed that the moment has arrived for a political transformation in Uganda.

He mentioned that God desires a new direction for the East African nation as the current situation is troubling.

He suggested that the envisioned new Uganda should not solely stem from Bobi Wine’s influence but should instead be driven by anyone capable of effective leadership.

As per the Catholic Church leader, even detached from political discussions, there exists a multitude of inefficiencies plaguing the country. He highlighted various issues such as corruption, kidnapping, tribalism, and land seizures.

He challenged Ugandans by asking if that’s truly the type of nation they aspire to inhabit. Fr. Musaala reiterated that the struggle is ongoing and all Ugandans will participate in it.

“The time has come; God wants something new in Uganda. We shouldn’t think that a new Uganda is Bobi Wine’s project- because Uganda really has to be reformed. Even if we put politics aside and speak as people who understand God, a Uganda which has corruption, kidnapping, tribalism and land grabbing…do we need that kind of Uganda? The struggle is ongoing, and we shall all be part of it,” Catholic priest Fr Anthony Musaala said.

For an extended period, religious leaders have been criticized for aligning with the government instead of advocating for the ordinary citizens they serve. The Church and other religious groups have significant influence on public political sentiment, especially regarding voting decisions.

In fact, certain churches and religious events have historically been utilized for political campaigning. Many politicians enjoy high esteem from churches, based on the treatment they receive. With the 2026 general elections approaching, religious leaders are anticipated to play a crucial role in swaying public opinion on who to support or reject.
