The Police in Kagadi are investigating a clash between a group of religious believers and a crowd of revelers that resulted in property damage and the firing of shots. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning at Busugubwa village in Ruteete town council, Kagadi district.
According to Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson, the incident unfolded around 12:50 a.m. as followers of Owobusobozi Bisaka, accompanied by army officers, were returning from a prayer gathering in Ruteete town.
Upon reaching Busugubwa trading center, the group encountered a Christmas celebration in progress, with revelers enjoying music and dancing.
Hakiiza stated that some individuals from the reveling crowd began throwing stones at the convoy, causing damage to the windshields of two vehicles: a Toyota Hiace with registration number UBN 734 C and a Toyota Wish with registration number UBJ 718 C.
In response to the escalating situation, army officers arrested 16 suspects and fired 17 warning shots to disperse the crowd, according to the regional police spokesperson.
The incident was reported to the Kagadi Police Station, prompting a swift response from the District Police Commander (DPC) SP Kenneth Ampurira and his team to assess the situation and restore order.
The 16 arrested suspects are currently detained at Kagadi Central Police Station and are undergoing interrogation.
