Honorable Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine and the president of the National Unity Platform, has urged party members to pay tribute to those who have been jailed or killed as a result of their political activism since 2021.
Kyagulanyi made these statements while in Masaka to commemorate his former bodyguard, Frank Senteza.
He participated in a mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Kitovu to pray for his late bodyguard, Frank Senteza, who lost his life during the 2020 campaigns. It is important to remember that Senteza was killed when security forces confronted Kyagulanyi’s team in Natete in late 2020.
During the mass, Father Andrew Kyamufumba encouraged NUP members to persist in their fight for human rights.
“Numerous individuals strive for peace, hoping to achieve a time of tranquility. It’s vital to support them in their endeavors,” Fr. Kyamufumba stated.
Speaking on behalf of Senteza’s family, his mother expressed gratitude to the NUP leadership for acknowledging her son’s role in the political fight.
Opposition Leader Hon Joel Ssenyonyi remarked that the party would always remember those whose contributions were essential in building the movement. He further encouraged more individuals to join their cause.
“The Bible teaches us about forgiveness, but we also face tough times where our human rights are disregarded. Many of our colleagues often vanish without a trace, and some have been killed,” Hon Ssenyonyi noted.
The party’s secretary general, David Lewis Rubongoya, mentioned that several of their comrades remain imprisoned and are unable to celebrate the holiday season with their families, all due to their political beliefs.
In his comments, Kyagulanyi expressed concern that many party members seem to have forgotten those who sacrifice everything for the party’s cause.
“Every leader in the NUP must be honest in their actions and words. This level of authenticity seems to have abandoned us, which is regrettable,” Kyagulanyi commented.
