(Beijing) – China Southern Airlines has announced the suspension of its daily direct flights on the Moscow–Beijing route. This temporary halt will take effect from January 20, 2025, and last until March 30, 2025. Ticket bookings on the airline’s website are only available up to January 19, with sales resuming after the winter schedule concludes.
The flight, designated as CZ342, was a key route between the two cities. In its place, travelers can opt for flights with layovers in Guangzhou or other available routes, such as Shenzhen–Moscow and Vladivostok–Yangtze.
The Association of Tour Operators of Russia estimates that the suspension could inconvenience 15,000 to 17,000 passengers during this period.
This development comes amid increased scrutiny of Russian airspace. On January 10, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued stricter guidelines for airlines flying to the EU. The recommendations specifically advise avoiding five regions within Russian airspace due to ongoing concerns.
In addition, reports indicate that Russian airlines continue operating passenger planes without proper maintenance. Sanctions have restricted access to necessary aircraft components and advanced electronics, raising safety concerns about the fleet’s condition.
