Ugandan Banyarwada, who refer to themselves as Bavandimwe, are ecstatic after President Museveni officially signed the executive order granting them equal rights alongside other indigenous Ugandans. The Bavandimwe, led by sociopolitical commentator Frank Gashumba, held a meeting at Speke Hotel in Kampala a few weeks ago, which attracted many attendees from all over the country.

They expressed their dissatisfaction with the treatment they receive from various government agencies while trying to obtain services such as passports and National IDs. They also highlighted the discrimination they face in their daily lives in their communities.

Many questioned why they are not treated as Ugandans, considering they have lived in Uganda their entire lives. They asserted that both they and their ancestors have been residents of Uganda for generations. The event featured several keynote speakers, but the primary topic was the pending executive order that President Museveni was about to sign, which would officially recognize the Bavandimwe as full Ugandans.

Fortunately, they won’t have to wait any longer, as Frank Gashumba announced that the executive order has now been issued. He shared a video on his X page while at State House, informing the public that the executive order is now in effect.

As a result, every aggrieved Muvandimwe can now obtain their National ID, passport, and other services. Those who had their National IDs unfairly revoked by the appropriate authorities can now restore them without facing ethnic discrimination. Gashumba emphasized that this is what they have long desired: to live in the country they consider home without any persecution.

Happiness is killing me😂😂😂

Nevertheless, some Bavandimwe still harbor concerns that the situation may not be straightforward despite the signing of the executive order. The agencies that have reportedly discriminated against the Bavandimwe the most are the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA).

“Perhaps we need a video of the president addressing this issue to serve as evidence at internal affairs… because those people might act like they don’t belong in Uganda and may have their own president,” remarked one Muvandimwe.

In the meantime, the Bavandimwe are expressing immense gratitude to Frank Gashumba, who has tirelessly fought to ensure they receive their rights and full acknowledgment as one of Uganda’s native tribes. Despite the challenges he faced, particularly from fellow Banyarwada and the UMUBANO group, the Sisimuka Uganda CEO has remained steadfast and has ultimately guided his people to a better situation.
