The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has ordered the arrest of individuals involved in vandalizing water pipes in Mitooma District. He issued this directive during the handover ceremony of nine classroom blocks at Ndurumo Primary School, which were constructed at a cost of 1.3 billion shillings, funded by NOUNS DAO ONCHAINS.
Tayebwa expressed concern over the disruption of water distribution caused by the theft of water pipes, which are being repurposed for distilling local alcohol (Waragi). He instructed security teams, led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), to apprehend those responsible and warned that sanctions would be imposed on anyone failing to enforce his directive.
During the ceremony, Tayebwa also commended Davine Owoyesigyire for securing the funds for the classroom blocks and urged the school headteacher to work toward improving academic results. Owoyesigyire expressed gratitude to NOUNS DAO ONCHAINS, Tayebwa, and the local church for their support, promising to introduce advanced technology to enhance students’ learning experience.
Additionally, Mitooma Woman MP, Juliet Agasha Bashiisha, called for the empowerment of staff at Ndurumo Primary School to boost performance and requested that the government refrain from transferring teachers too frequently.
Mitooma District LCV Chairperson, Benon Karyija, highlighted a decline in First Grade performance in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and urged school heads to develop strategies to improve results.
